Animal volunteers gathered at a home in Hicksville Monday to protest its demolition, claiming that there are still cats stuck inside.

The home on Page Drive was damaged in a fire on Jan. 31. Both homeowners were able to escape the fire.

Detective Matthew Roper with the Nassau County SPCA said that cats were not found in the structure earlier Monday. An investigation was conducted using thermo-imaging cameras through the basement, first floor and the rest of the structure.

News 12's Jenn Seelig spoke with volunteers at the scene.
