Police: 17-year-old accused of firing gun in Hempstead; injures officer during arrest

A 17-year-old accused of firing a gun in Hempstead on Friday morning is facing charges after he injured an officer during his arrest.

Detectives say they responded to Stewart Avenue after receiving a notification from the gunshot detection system ShotSpotter. Upon arrival, they recovered two shell casings on the ground.

A 17-year-old was accused of firing those shots, according to authorities. Police found the suspect at Clinton and Dartmouth Street.

Police say he then resisted arrest and injured an officer. The suspect now faces several charges including an active warrant of criminal mischief from November.
