Rep. George Santos was ousted from the House Friday morning.

While the decision came from lawmakers, the ultimate decision comes back to the voter.

News 12 spoke with residents in Bethpage about the decision, and many said they could not wait for this moment and were relieved.

District Director Mark Woolley says nothing will change in terms of services for the expelled congressman's constituents. He said, "I am just very proud of the work that we have done with all that's going on, and our job here is to continue operating as we always have."

The House clerk will now assume the responsibilities of overseeing both the Washington D.C. and district offices.

Gov. Kathy Hochul will have to schedule a special election for his replacement. She tweeted, "I am prepared to undertake the solemn responsibility of filling the vacancy in New York's 3rd District."

Hochul will have to declare a proclamation for the special election within 10 days, then its off to the races for both parties to put up a candidate because the special election will have to happen within 70 to 80 days after that.
