Republican Ed Romaine wins race for Suffolk County executive

The Brookhaven town supervisor will take over for Democrat Steve Bellone, who has been the county executive since 2012.

Republican Ed Romaine won the race for Suffolk County executive Tuesday evening, defeating his Democratic challenger Dave Calone.

Romaine, the Brookhaven town supervisor, will take over for Democrat Steve Bellone, who has been in office since 2012.

Calone, an investment firm CEO and former federal and state prosecutor conceded late Tuesday after the race was called for Romaine.
