Neighbors concerned about new homeless shelter coming to Bay Shore

Some Bay Shore residents are frustrated that they were not informed that the Travelodge motel would be converted into a local homeless shelter.

They say they are concerned about their safety and security.

The homeless shelter is being run by the United Veterans Beacon House, which provides temporary and permanent housing to U.S. military veterans.

Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter says she wants to ensure proper zoning laws are followed. She says a recent fire inspection found some troubling violations at the newly run homeless shelter.
