As the weather turns, Long Islanders are ready to make their annual trip out to the apple orchards and farm stands.

That includes Wickham’s Fruit Farm in Cutchogue.

Wickham’s was established in the late 1600s and is now run by the 12th generation of the family that founded it. They're mainly known for a wide variety of fruits and berries.

“Very few farm stands are growing and selling beach plums to the public,” said Wickham’s Fruit Farms Laurie McBride. “It's a native fruit so it's something the Wickhams grew up picking around the beaches.”

People who want to venture beyond the farm stand and go out in the field can pick their own apples from now until mid-October. Those who bring a wagon on Friday and Saturday can go onto the farm.
