Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone on Monday honored the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001 with a memorial service in Hauppauge.

A bell was rung in remembrance of each Suffolk resident who sacrificed their life in service.

"I believe each and every one of us should use 9/11 as a day to remind ourselves to commit ourselves to coming together,” said Bellone. “Healing as a nation, as a community, as individuals working together.”

Along with Hauppauge, Smithtown and Riverhead also held their own ceremonies.
