As summer winds down, maybe you would like to wind down with a nice glass of a local wine.
It was 1980 when Kip and Susan Bedell started a winery in Cutchogue. Kip is credited with putting Merlot on the early map of Long Island wines.
Now, 43 years later, owned by another family, Bedell Cellars continues to produce award-winning wines and is well responded in the industry.
“We make wine only out of fruit that we grow on our estate. We don’t sell any fruit to anybody and we don’t make anybody else’s wine but our own,” says Rich Olsen-Harbich, winemaker.
Along with their wine, Bedell is a favorite of many for their property starting with the tasting room.
There’s the outside that features picnic tables scattered on the lawn near the grapevines -- and a huge deck, both covered and uncovered.
