Sen. Gilibrand proposes legislation to eliminate making of 3D ghost guns

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand on Monday proposed a new legislation alongside victims and families of gun violence to halt the making of 3D ghost guns.
Gillibrand, along with other elected officials, said some of the ghost guns are made with 3D printers, which has allowed them to bypass metal detectors since there’s no metal in the weapons but just plastic.
New Yorkers are prohibited from owning or selling 3D printed firearms, but there is no law prohibiting making them until now. The new act could make it illegal to publish or distribute digital blueprints that allow the 3D printing of guns.
According to the NYPD, there has been a rise in 3D printed guns and there has been a 75% increase in ghost guns that have been taken off city streets.
“Those who shouldn’t have a gun shouldn’t be able to print one,” said Gillibrand. “By cracking down on the blueprints as well as the guns themselves we can limit the general availability of ghost guns and make sure that dangerous individuals cannot get their hands on them.”
