A Long Island company has nailed down the technique for helping companies build up their brands with its sign creations.
Northstar Signs in Patchogue has a 14,000 square-foot facility to make signs for businesses across the Island.
Alfred Puig, the founder and president of Northstar Signs, began his career as a graphic artist in 1974 in New York City. He now works alongside his son and considers everyone in the workshop family.
"Everybody here is a craftsman. We love what we do. We're very precise as we can be because we're doing finished work," says Puig.
Puig says the company doesn't look at it as signage. He says it is more like artwork.
"We made signs for TFCU, Teachers Federal Credit Union," says Puig. "I striped and lettered probably about 2,500 or 2,600 police cars for the Suffolk County Police Department."
The company makes everything custom because every business has a different logo and has a different process.
Northstar Signs has also created signs for popular restaurants like Rhum on Main Street in Patchogue and for businesses like Lee Phillips Packaging in Ronkonkoma.
