With less than three days before the historic inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, a group of Long Island residents is getting ready to head out to Washington, D.C. to take part in the festivities.
Over coffee and toast at the Golden Reef Diner in Rockville Centre, Diane Jackson and James Garner, both of Hempstead, were gushing over the upcoming event.
?I'm busting at the seams,? Jackson said. ?Oh God, you have no idea.?
Garner, a former mayor of Hempstead, helped organize an inauguration trip for more than 200 people. They will take a train on the morning of Jan. 20 and come back that same night.
Members of Garner?s group say until they see the first African-American president rest his hand on Abraham Lincoln?s bible, it will not feel real to them.
