Two Smithtown teens were rescued from the Long Island Sound Saturday after their catamaran flipped over in the waters off Nissequogue.
Police say Douglas Botto and Eric Damn, both 19, were wearing life vests when their 16-foot craft flipped at around 11:30 a.m. Waves that were 3 to 5 feet high at the time prevented them from righting the boat.
They hung onto the hull of the catamaran for 90 minutes. A good Samaritan spotted the teens and radioed for help.
Suffolk Marine Bureau officers and the Coast Guard responded. Damn and Botto were pulled from the water unharmed, officials say.
