Detectives are asking for the public’s help in searching for a person who pushed two small white dogs out of a vehicle into Sunken Meadow State Park earlier this month.
Police say the person was driving a tan or gold SUV and drove off after dumping the dogs.
According to Smithtown Animal Control, it took about five days for both dogs to appear again after being abandoned.
The dogs, which have been named Thelma and Louise, were taken to the Smithtown Animal Shelter covered in ticks.
Thelma has been adopted.
