Two Long Islanders were named recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Sandra Lindsay, the first American to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, will be recognized.
The Port Washington resident served on the frontlines of the pandemic as a critical care nurse at Northwell Health.
She says that she was in Colorado and missed a call from the White House and a message that the president wanted to speak to her.
Lindsay wrote in a tweet that she was "truly honored to be receiving this prestigious civilian recognition among some of the greats in our nation."
Fr. Alexander Karloutsos, a priest for five decades that has provided counsel to several United States presidents, will also be honored.
Fr. Karloutsos currently serves the Orthodox Christian community in Southampton.
He is also the former vicar general of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
Other names being honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom this year include Simone Biles, John McCain, Steve Jobs, Gabrielle Giffords and Denzel Washington.
