For some families, it's a yearly tradition. For others, it's just a great way to celebrate the holiday season. And now News 12's Elisa DiStefano has your backstage pass to the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall.
Giving her the grand tour, Long Island natives and Rockettes Jen Clavin, of Holtsville, and Eleni Gavalas, of Manhasset. The ladies perform on stage in up to five shows a day during the holiday season.
Among all the glitz, glamour and sparkle on stage, there's just as much going on back stage. The Rockettes have eight costume changes with as little as 72 seconds between numbers. According to Clavin, the ladies have microphones on the bottom of their tap shoes, so spectators can hear all the taps live.
"My favorite is the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers," says Gavalas. "It's been in the show since 1933. [These] costumes have stayed the same."
New this year is the ragdolls in Santa's workshop. And as far as those kicks? They reached up 300 kicks a show!
