2 LI students start new radio station on LI's East End
A new radio station founded by two college students is on the airwaves on the East End.
Matthew Glaser and Andrew Adams are the co-owners of WELJ 108, which is broadcast out of East Hampton and can be heard at FM 104.7 WELJ.
Glaser and Adams have been friends since middle school and graduated from Smithtown High School in 2014. Both are college seniors, Glaser at Stony Brook University and Adams at Plattsburgh State University.
Their East Hampton station is still under construction, but the co-owners say they have put a lot of thought into the creation of the station.
"We've always wanted to buy into radio. It's something we've always dreamed of. It's such a passion that goes beyond what really meets the eye," says Glaser.
For now, they're broadcasting with a holiday format and say they will be keeping the station's new format under wraps until Dec. 26.
