Two women were killed early Thursday morning after a fire tore through their trailer home in Calverton.
The fire, which started at around 4 a.m., claimed the lives of a woman in her 50s and her mother. A family friend told News 12 Long Island that the victims were Mary Ann DiGuissepe, who was in her late 50s, and Mary Ann Keen Luppens, who was in her late 80s.
Next door neighbor Diana Ruvolo says she awoke early in the morning to see the fire. She says she called 911 and then made an attempt to save her friends.
"We rushed out, we went on the porch, we tried to get in the front door, but by that time the flames were in the kitchen and there was no way we could get inside,? Ruvolo says.
DiGuissepe?s son rushed to the scene after seeing the fire on News 12 Long Island Thursday morning only to have firefighters give him the tragic news.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but police say they don?t suspect foul play. Neighbors say at least one of the women was a smoker and they had two dogs, which also perished in the fire.
