Two men were seriously injured in a Ridge crash that shut down Middle Country Road for hours early Friday morning.
Christian McKelvey, 19, of Sound Beach, was driving a Jeep when he swerved into the opposite lane, crashing into a bread truck at around 5:30 a.m., according to police. The Wonder Bread truck was driven by 61-year-old Jose Hernandez, of Medford.
The crash left a mangled mess of metal and debris on the road and pinned the drivers in their vehicles. The top of the Jeep was torn off.
Ridge Fire Department Chief John DeVito says it took more than 40 minutes to extricate the drivers. The drivers were airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center and are expected to survive.
The crash happened about two miles from where 20-year-old Jessica Macnevin crashed her car and was killed Wednesday. Some neighbors in that area say they?ve signed a petition asking for a traffic light at the intersection where Macnevin was killed.
