Two single-car crashes on major Bronx highways claimed two lives over the weekend.
The latest accident occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday on the Major Deegan Expressway. Police say the driver crashed with two passengers in the vehicle. One of the passengers was ejected and died; the other is listed in stable condition.
The 21-year-old driver of that vehicle faces drunken driving charges.
Police say around 5 a.m. Saturday, another driver jumped a guardrail on the Cross Bronx Expressway near Jerome Avenue. The driver was killed in the wreck.
According to the Department of Transportation, the guardrail is safe and officials believe the driver had to have been speeding to jump the rail.
