Police made two arrests Friday in connection with the death of a 14-year-old boy found just blocks from his West Babylon home on New Year?s Day.
Garret Quedens was found in the freezing cold on Watson Avenue Thursday. Suffolk police say just before 4 a.m., a newspaper deliveryman discovered the teen's body by the road. Police say he died a couple of hours later at the hospital. Police arrested Ishmoile Mohammed III, 19, and Reynold Jennings, 23, both of West Babylon. Police say the two men bought a bottle of vodka for Quedens and his 14-year-old friend. They were each charged with unlawfully dealing with a child. Police say the men and Quedens were acquaintances.
Investigators say Quedens left his home at around 8 p.m. on New Year's Eve and went to the woods by his home to party with the friend. The friend says at one point he passed out for about three hours and came to, to notice Quedens was not there. He says he went to the spot where they parked their bikes and saw Quedens? was still there. He assumed Quedens walked home, he says.
The two men face up to a year behind bars. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
