Two Long Island men are accused of staging a car crash to collect more than $100,000 in insurance benefits.
The incident happened back in 2016. Prosecutors now say that video footage shows the men, William Keenan and Robert Caires, meeting in a parking lot next to an Islip canal.
Moments later, Keenan allegedly intentionally drove Caires' 1974 classic sports car into the water.
The men are accused of lying to police about how the car wound up in the water. And they had claimed they were both in the car at the time, but prosecutors say Caires is seen jumping into the water after the crash.
The two are accused of falsifying insurance and personal injury claims.
