A 19-year-old Marine from Sag Harbor is the latest Long Island casualty of the war in Iraq.
Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter, 19, was killed in a suicide car bomb attack Tuesday. He is being remembered in the close-knit Sag Harbor community as a friendly and sweet young man. Flags are being flown at half-staff and his photograph has been placed in the window of the cleaners where he used to work.
Family friend Jenna Salsedo says with Haerter?s death, ?this war really became a reality for us.? She recalls Haerter helping to recruit for the Marines in Sag Harbor. He told her he wanted to go to Iraq because of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
A family spokesman says tentative funeral arrangements are for Sunday and Monday.
