A 14-year-old girl was killed and several others hurt in a four-car crash Wednesday in Farmingdale.

The crash occurred on Route 109 and Main Street in an area that business owners say is dangerous for motorists. 

According to police, the driver of a 2017 Honda Odyssey was making a left turn onto Main Street from Fulton Street when it was struck by the driver of an eastbound 2014 Jeep Wrangler. 

The collision caused the Honda to strike two other vehicles that were stopped at a traffic light. 

The 14-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the Honda, was transported to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. 

The other injuries sustained in the crash were not life-threatening, police say. 

The crash occurred in front of John Divito's car repair shop. He says there is an accident there every month.

"We're standing in a dangerous spot right now because any moment someone can come flying into us," he told News 12 Long Island. 

Others who spoke to News 12 said they would like to see a stop sign or rumble strips that would slow drivers down. Some community members have reached out to lawmakers hoping something will change. 

The state Department of Transportation sent News 12 a statement saying safety is its priority. It says it's waiting until the investigation is complete to understand the cause of the crash.
