A 13-year-old boy is doing OK after he nearly drowned in the rough surf of Atlantic Beach, thanks to the quick thinking of onlookers and a doctor in the right place at the right time.
Dr. Steve Nicholas was the New York Jets? orthopedic surgeon for years. He was at Atlantic Beach Monday afternoon when he says the young surfer hit a jetty and was knocked unconscious.
Nicholas says several individuals on the beach helped take him out of the water and administer CPR. For a few minutes it looked bleak, the doctor says, but the boy started to come around after about 10 minutes of resuscitation.
