A 12-year-old boy says he was shot with a pellet gun while walking in Lindenhurst.
Will Vazquez says he was heading to a convenience store when five people approached him with a pellet gun.
He was hit in his arm first and then continued to be shot while he attempted to hide under a car.
"I was trying to hide under a car. They found me," Vazquez says. "And they said, 'Oh right there,' and then they started shooting me."
Vazquez then started running to the Lindenhurst Youth Center, where he spends many afternoons after school.
He believes the incident was part of the Orbeez Gun TikTok challenge that has been circulating on social media.
"It's like a TikTok challenge. They go by in a car, they do drive-bys, they shoot people," Vazquez says. "It's mostly with ski masks, I think it's going to be a big thing this summer."
Tai Vicari, vice president of the board of directors at the Lindenhurst Youth Center, says they called police to make sure everything was OK when Vasquez arrived.
Vicari says this is the first incident that they've seen in the area.
"This is not the norm. So, what I've been told, there's some kind of TikTok challenge out there," Vicari says. "Unfortunately, it came to our community."
Vasquez says he is concerned that he could be a victim again.
There has been a string of other pellet gun incidents that Suffolk and Nassau police are investigating.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
