106th Rescue Wing returns from Harvey, Irma missions
The New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing is home after rescuing more than 2,100 people caught in Harvey and Irma’s wrath.
Crews led rescue missions in areas devastated by Hurricane Harvey and Irma.
More than 120 servicemen and women responded to areas of Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. They saw the destruction firsthand: The flooding in Texas, the complete leveling of buildings in the U.S. Virgin Islands, people rummaging through the wreckage to salvage their belongings.
"To walk out and actually get to help Americans on American soil, that is something I'll definitely hold on to," says Maj. Sal Sferrazza.
