One person is dead and another is injured after a crash involving a cargo van in Mastic Beach late Saturday night.
Police say a 1994 Ford van was headed south on Mastic Road near Riverside Avenue around 10:30 p.m. when it struck two pedestrians in the roadway.
The pedestrians, identified as 35-year-old Billie Benetatos and 49-year-old Brett Locke, were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. Benetatos, of Mastic, was pronounced dead.
Locke, also of Mastic, suffered a broken clavicle.
The driver of the van, identified as 49-year-old Thomas Pietsch, of Mastic Beach, was not injured. Police say he remained at the scene and no charges have been filed at this time.
The van was impounded for a safety check and police say their investigation is ongoing.
