A Syosset man accused of fatally stabbing his mother and injuring his father during an argument pleaded not guilty Friday from Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.
Ian Kazer, 29, is charged with murder and attempted murder for allegedly stabbing his parents at their Syosset home.
For Kazer's arraignment, he was brought out from behind a secure door into a waiting room inside the secure psych ward at NUMC. He then sat in a chair and appeared calm and alert as he pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was wearing light blue hospital socks, beige pants and a blue shirt, and did not have any visible injuries on his body.
According to court documents, Kazer used a "kitchen steak knife" to repeatedly stab his 66-year old mother Frances in the torso and neck. He then allegedly used the same knife to stab his 69-year old father Howard once in the torso. Police said Thursday that Kazer lived in the Syosset Circle home with his parents and got into a fight with them after getting fired from his job at Target.Kazer's legal aide attorney says the suspect had worked at Target for two years. When the judge asked Kazer if he could afford an attorney, Kazer said, "I was working, got fired, just trying to get Social Security again."
On Thursday, Kazer's older brother Evan said the suspect struggled to maintain a job but didn't elaborate.
The prosecutor asked that Kazer be held without bail, citing the serious nature of the allegations. The judge agreed. A court date is set for later this month.
