Police: Syosset man fatally stabs mother, wounds father during argument
A 29-year-old man fatally stabbed his mother and wounded his father during an argument Wednesday night at their family home in Syosset, according to police.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at 54 Syosset Circle around 9 p.m. Police say the fight stemmed from suspect Ian Kazer being fired from his job earlier that day. He worked as a cashier at a nearby store.
Police say 66-year-old Frances Kazer, a retired teacher, was stabbed multiple times in the torso and neck. She died at a hospital. Howard Kazer, 69, was stabbed once in the torso. He was in stable condition.
A neighbor says she saw the suspect and his father arguing outside the home. That neighbor called police after seeing a barefoot Ian Kazer running away from the home.
Evan Kazer, the suspects's older brother, told News 12 he was "numb" after hearing what happened. He says his mother was a loving and kind woman and that his brother has no history of mental illness.
"I was proud of him," Evan Kazer says. "It seemed like he had a steady job finally, things were improving."
Police say Ian Kazer will be charged with murder and attempted murder when he is medically able to be arraigned.
