Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano declared a state of emergency for the city ahead of Sunday's winter storm which could bring up to 12 inches of snow.

"Snow Emergency Routes will be in effect starting midnight tonight," Spano said on a Facebook post on Saturday. He urged residents to "move your vehicle(s) immediately to avoid ticketing or towing."

Spano added that the city's Department of Public Works crews will be deployed Sunday at 7 a.m. and remain out throughout the duration of the storm into Monday for cleanup.

Spano urged residents to stay off the roads and "to look out for one another" during the winter storm.
