A Yonkers man witnessed the horrifying moments of a man opening fire on the steps of St. John the Divine Sunday afternoon and managed to record the incident with his cellphone.

Steven Wilson says he was in front of the cathedral attending a Christmas choral concert outdoors.

He was with his wife, 12-year-old daughter and extended family when shots rang out.

"He was firing, he was yelling 'kill me' and he was on the top step of the cathedral," Wilson says.

He says he made sure his family was safe as they quickly hid behind a car across the street when he took out his cellphone and started recording.

A detective, a sergeant and a police officer who were already at the event fired 15 rounds, killing the suspect.

The NYPD says once the suspect was down, officers secured the scene and found a bag filled with a full can of gasoline, rope, wire, multiple knives, a Bible and tape.

Wilson says he's relieved no one else was injured and said that the NYPD deserves a lot of credit.
