The New York Yankees topped the Minnesota Twins 8-4 Tuesday night to win the American League wild-card game.
The Bronx Bombers started with 23-year-old Luis Severino behind the mound against fellow Dominican Ervin Santana. It was Severino's first postseason appearance.
Severino wasn't the only one who made his playoff debut for New York. Catcher Gary Sanchez and outfielder Aaron Judge -- already household names around baseball -- also experienced the postseason for the very first time, with the latter hitting a home run.
"That's what it's all about: postseason baseball," Judge said before the game. "A lot of those numbers that are hanging out there in left field, this is where they made a name for themselves, the postseason. I'm just excited for this opportunity."
The Yankees advance to take on the Cleveland Indians in the American League Division Series.
The Yankees had not won a playoff game since 2012.
