A vintage World War II plane is getting an overhaul on Long Island ahead of a new mission.
The Whiskey 7 is normally kept at the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, but it has been on Long Island for the last six weeks undergoing critical communication and navigation upgrades ahead of a 2014 flight returning to Normandy for the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
The museum is planning on flying the plane to the United Kingdom next spring to participate in the re-enactment of the Invasion of Normandy.
