Hundreds of the best swimmers from around the globe competed in the World Cup Swimming Championship at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow Saturday.
The top swimmers from three dozen nations competed in the FINA World Cup Championship in anticipation of the 2008 Summer Olympics. Six-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps headlined the event. The meet is a chance for competitors to see how they measure against other elite swimmers and to practice for the Olympic trials.
It is the fifth year in which FINA has held a world cup championship at the Nassau Aquatic Center.
