A Massapequa woman is trying to find the owner of an old wedding photo that mysteriously washed up on her lawn after Superstorm Sandy.
Leah Welsh found an 8-by-10 photo that appears to be a wedding picture from the 1950s while cleaning up her lawn the day after Sandy hit. It appears to be a photo of a bride and her father.
The photo was buried in a pile of debris that washed up on her lawn. Welsh plucked the photo from the debris and began hunting for its owner.
"I know that something like this means a lot," she says. "You know, during a devastation like Sandy, you lose so much. And materialistic things can be replaced ... but a picture, it's memories that remind you of the past. It's something special."
Welsh made several attempts to find the owner, but was unsuccessful. She put the picture away and forgot about it for two years, but rediscovered it this week. She says she's determined to find the rightful owner this time.
She's posted the photo on a number of community Facebook pages, but has no leads yet.
"I can't wait to find the owner of this picture, and just like see their facial expression," she says.
If you are the owner of the photo or have information about who the owner may be, you can email Welsh.
