Easthampton supervisor says dunes ‘spared pretty well’ despite strong winds churning water
Henri sent heavy rains and intense winds to the East End
throughout Sunday.
News 12’s Danielle Campbell went to Montauk to see
conditions along the shore.
Easthampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc says the
storm could have been a lot worse, especially on the ocean side which often
suffers severe erosion.
“That's always a concern for us," Scoyoc says.
"We have to keep sand over the top of the artificial dune. We’ve done
replenishments twice already this year, we don't want to lose any more sand.
But it looks like that spared pretty well."
Although Long Island did see heavy rain and high winds,
it appears for the most part Henri was a near miss and could’ve been a lot
worse for the East End.
