Island Park’s mayor is warning residents about the potential of coastal flooding today because of the storm.

New York State police say a tree fell onto a car on the Southern State Parkway, but no one was hurt.

News 12 did see a tree that fell on the Southern State.

Earlier Wednesday afternoon, crews were working on the side of the Southern State at Exit 18 removing pieces of the fallen tree.

In Island Park, homeowners near the water say they are bracing themselves for potential flooding.

“It floods like crazy it’s insane but we get through it the house was raised since 2012," said Dominick Amorosa, of Island Park.

The mayor of Island Park says they are mitigating potential street flooding by clearing leaves and other debris from storm drains.

He says with slick roads from the rain and wet leaves, avoid going out today if you can.

“Stay in. If you do have to go out, please drive carefully," said Michael McGinty, mayor of Island Park.

The mayor adds that the area could get up to 2 inches of rain and waves up to 3 feet.

He says weak tree limbs and dead trees in the area have already been taken down to prevent them from knocking out power lines.
