Our next round of strong wind is impacting Long Island right now. The worst of the wind is a quick overnight hit, but it can definitely impact your sleep and wake you up. Wind gusts will be frequently in the 30 to 45 mph range, but some isolated gusts can be close to 55 mph or so.
This is easily enough to topple garbage pails and blow around unsecured objects. Please use caution if you have to travel overnight because scattered debris from strong wind can of course be difficult to see at night.
On Thursday morning, the wind gusts will begin to drop into the 20 to 35 mph range pretty quickly. That said, there can still be scattered power problems ongoing and scattered trees and branches down.
Other than that, it will be a decent, but cooler day on Thursday. It will stay dry through Friday and temperatures will warm back up into the 60s for Friday and the weekend. Our next rain chances arrive this weekend though! Neither day will be a complete washout, but expect a few showers Saturday morning and more to arrive Sunday afternoon. The best part of the weekend is likely Saturday afternoon.
HEADS UP — EXPECT A COLDER FEEL NEXT WEEK!
Please keep in mind as you plan ahead for next week and especially any outdoor events for Veterans Day that it will feel much colder! We could have a freeze for a good portion of Long Island on Tuesday morning with early morning temperatures in the low 30s. High temperatures next week will only be in the 40s to low 50s.
Take a look below at what it could feel like on a breezy and colder Veterans Day next Tuesday.
Have a great night and stay safe in the strong wind overnight!
