Whiskey Down Diner in Farmingdale is opening a second location in Babylon.

The restaurant shared the announcement on social media to ring in the new year.

The owners tell News 12 they will be taking over Ristorante Gemelli's space at 175 E. Main St.

They are hoping to open by the fall.

"I think we had a really good response of the twist we took on the diner business and we're looking forward to bringing it to Babylon," says owner of Whiskey Down Diner Alyson Kanaras.

"It'll bring new life to the village," says Babylon resident Katie Egner.

The owner of Ristorante Gemelli tells News 12 they're retiring.

They're not sure yet when their last day will be but they are thankful for their customers.

"They've been here for so long and we've always appreciated them," says Babylon resident Kevin Conley.

Many are excited for Whiskey Down Diner to Open.

"I work in Farmingdale and I go there at least twice a month," says Sayville resident Tony Briguglio.

Some say there's been a lot of turnover of businesses in the last few years and they're sad to see another one go.

"The past two years, there has been a lot of that," says co-owner of Mario's Pasticceria Anthony Mistretta. "There's new people that come in. The old ones are getting out."

"There's been a lot, a lot of changes, new restaurants, especially down deer park avenue," says Babylon resident Stephanie Conley.

Some had no idea Ristorante Gemelli is closing.

"It's always so wonderful and authentic and family run and you feel that," says Egner.

"It was a staple of Babylon," says Mistretta.

The plans for Whiskey Down Diner would still need to go through Babylon Village for approvals. Business owners hope it'll bring more people to the area.

Gemelli Fine Foods, their market down the street from the restaurant, will not be closing.
