High winds wreaked havoc across Long Island Wednesday causing downed trees and power lines.
In Bethpage, a utility pole came crashing down and caused an apartment building to catch fire. Quick-thinking neighbors were able to alert the tenants and bring them to safety. Downed trees also blocked roads and knocked out power to about 20,000 LIPA customers.
The winds are expected to die down in the afternoon, however, localized flooding is possible in many areas.
