What you should know before voting on Election Day

The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and if you're in line to vote before 9 p.m., you can stay in line.

Hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders waited in long lines to cast their ballots during early voting, and thousands more are expected to come out and vote on Election Day.

The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and if you're in line to vote before 9 p.m., you can stay in line. You do not need to show a photo ID to vote, but you must provide a signature with a poll worker before you get a ballot.
You can't wear political apparel supporting anyone on the ballot while you're at the polls, and you also can't stand in front of a polling site campaigning for a particular candidate or cause.
Early mail and absentee ballots must be postmarked or returned in person by Nov. 5, and mail ballots must arrive at the county board of elections by Nov. 11.
