Firefighters say a woman was severely burned while trying to save her dogs from her burning home in Westhampton Beach.
Phil Mangone, his brother Joe and Joe's wife, Belinda, were all inside a home on North Quarter Road when flames broke out around 4 p.m. Sunday.
Phil and Joe were able to get out the house without injury. Police say Belinda was in the shower at the time the fire broke out and tried to save the family's three small dogs.
News 12 is told she was seriously burned while trying to save the dogs. The family says she is recovering at the Stony Brook University Hospital burn unit.
The three dogs perished in the fire.
"The flames were up to the ceiling and I knew I had to get out and I just got out of the house," says Mangone. "Luckily there is a basement door out the back and we got out that way."
The Southampton Town fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
