An 18-year-old girl from West Sayville was shot and killed in Nesconset Wednesday morning. Police say her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend is in custody.

Police say the deadly shooting happened in Shenandoah Boulevard around 11 a.m.

Emily Finn, 18, was visiting her ex-boyfriends house after breaking up with him over the phone.

Police say she wanted to talk in person and return some items to him.

Homicide detectives say when the victim arrived, the 17-year-old took out a shotgun and opened fire.

His parents were outside when this happened and called 911.

"He then turned the gun on himself and shot himself," said Lt. Detective Kevin Beyrer. "He survived the shot and was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he’s in surgery right now. Charges are expected to be filed when he comes out of surgery."

Police say there was no history of domestic violence between the two.
