West Islip's weekly paper collection pilot program on Wednesday's is seeing a large increase.
In just seven weeks, paper and cardboard recycling is up 25% in the targeted community.
Officials say before the program took place, cardboard was picked up biweekly with metals, glass and plastic.
It's now being done weekly, and workers with the town say it’s made the intake easier.
Over the upcoming weeks, the commissioner says the town will be handing out bins to help people put more paper out, and if the trial is successful, they hope to expand it to the entire town.
