The West Islip community is mourning the loss of two brothers in a fire.
One brother was a current student at West Islip High School, and the other was a former student.
West Islip High School is offering grief counseling this morning following the deaths of Matthew Kreamer, 24, and Kyle Dilegame, 16.
To honor the brothers, balloons and ribbons adorn the school in blue and gold. Today was declared as ‘unity day’ - with everyone encouraged to wear school colors.
The fire happened on Saturday. More than a half dozen fire departments and EMS personnel responded to the scene at 136 Udall Road just before 6 a.m.
Fire officials say Kreamer and Dilegame, 16, were located deceased inside the residence. They were both trapped on the second floor.
Officials say their parents, Joseph Dilegame, 54, and Toni Kreamer, 53, managed to escape and told firefighters that their boys were still inside.
Both the parents suffered burns and smoke inhalation. They were transported by the West Islip Fire Department to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip.
Dilegame was subsequently transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Officials say there was no criminality involved.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
GoFundMe has been set up for the family.
