Parents in West Hempstead are worried after a second-grader at George Washington Elementary was approached by a predator.
Police say the second-grader was walking to school when a stranger approached and asked the child to go home with him. The child instead ran for help, and school officials called police. Police say the suspect is still at large.
School officials sent a letter home to parents asking them not to let children walk to school by themselves. The letter also informed parents what to tell their children to do if a stranger approaches them.
