All right, good afternoon, everyone. We continue our storm watch coverage as we continue to deal with the nor'easter hitting Long Island. I just want to kind of walk you through what to expect from this point forward. We're worse. We're past the worst of the wind and the rain, but it's still a nasty day out. We still have those coastal flooding issues through this evening, as well as the ongoing beach erosion as well. From this point forward, most of those wind gusts will be around 30 to 35 MPH. For a while we can get an occasional one up to around 40 or 45 still and the ground is still so saturated, so those still persistent wind gusts anywhere from 30 to 45, still enough to create some additional scattered power outage concerns. We'll be on top of that for you through the evening on the news 12 app News2.com and right here on air as well. Lingering periods of rain at times it's just some light rain and drizzle. Other times you could get a brief downpour. So we have ongoing coast. Still flooding. You saw some visuals from Lindenhurst past high tide now as we approach 5 or 6 o'clock this evening, the Sayville area approaches high tide. North shore pretty much the entire North shore, and also including Riverhead as we approach 5 o'clock this evening. That is high tide in those areas. Once we get past 5 o'clock, we'll start to see any flooding from our high tide cycle this afternoon. Start to slowly. But surely ease off. So as we look at the satellite and radar picture here, we can see the rain, a couple of scattered downpours south of Long Island that will impact, say the South shore towards Mastic over the next half hour or so. We have some steady light rain over towards Islip, Babylon right now and further out towards the east and towards Montauk and over towards East Hampton. Some light rain as well. Winds are coming down but still gusty, 10 to 20 mile per hour sustained winds as Mentioned at times those winds gusting close to 40 MPH still. Temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. We'll still have off and on periods of rain showers through around 9 or 10 o'clock tonight. And then at worst for the overnight, just some patchy drizzle, and then we'll have much drier conditions moving in as we go into the day tomorrow and the rest of the week. We are continuing to track periods of rain, wind, and coastal flooding across the island this afternoon. Newswell's Nicolette Sch Leisman is in Lindenhurst getting a look at the conditions. So Nicolette, what is happening there? Well, Tama, I can tell you that there is obviously water in the street where we are right now. We're at Riviera and Oak in Lindenhurst like you said, and we just actually saw some swans that came up here. They just went around the corner, but they came up almost right to where I'm standing and then swam all the way back there. But we just talked to a neighbor who lives across the street, and they said this is about as far as the water has gotten so far this morning, but I can tell you that there are some people that are still keeping an eye on the water levels as that high tide is expected. Now we have been driving around. Suffolk County all morning long. We were most recently in Mastic where crews were working to clear a tree that had fallen onto the road at Whittier Drive. Now there were neighbors, there were excuse me, live down power lines in some neighbors' front yards for several hours. We spoke with some of them. They tell us that they were nervous during strong wind storms about the large trees. That surround their homes and they'd already been nervous about it and that happened this morning. The worry that one of them would fall, but luckily none fell on any homes this morning. Now we were also in Asherron where we drove down Ashron Avenue along the seawall where we saw waves crashing over onto the walls as it was dark, we didn't drive any further because we felt like it wasn't safe. We could see. Some waves and water just coming on to the road there. We just didn't feel like that was a safe space to be, so we turned around and went back to higher ground. Now due to the dangerous weather conditions like what we just showed you, the city's 81st annual Columbus Day parade has been canceled, and it will not be rescheduled. We're told. Organizers say the decision was necessary for the safety of all participants and viewers. The Columbus Citizens Foundation said they look forward to seeing everyone next year at the 82nd annual parade in 2026.

There are a few pockets of outages, mainly in Nassau County — in Port Washington, Glen Cove and Levittown.

Thousands without power across Long Island due to nor’easter

Just under 4000 people on the island do not have power right now. There are a few pockets of outages, mainly in Nassau County. In Suffolk, there's a small outage right now in Mastic on Neighborhood Road, and you can take a look why. That is that downed tree that you are seeing. So that community is without power. This large tree came down on neighborhood road knocking out wires. There are also outages on the north and south forks right now. We spoke to PSCG Long Island. They tell us crews are on the ground responding. So we have mobilized an entire team, um, 900 line workers, tree trimmer surveys, and other personnel. In addition, we brought on an additional 580 off-island personnel. They're on site ready to address all outages. Now the power authority says if you see a downed wire, as we've been telling you, assume it's live. Do not go near it. Call the number on your screen. If you're pre-registered, the easiest thing you can do is text the word out to PSEGLI.
