Weather: Wintry mix bringing messy evening commute
The bitterly cold stretch of sub-freezing weather is over, but a nuisance wintry mix was making for a messy Monday evening commute.
News 12 meteorologists say the light mix of rain, sleet and freezing rain will continue through the evening. A slushy coating to an inch of accumulation is possible. Roadways will likely be slick, so drivers are being urged to take it slow.
A winter weather advisory was issued through Monday evening due to the risk of freezing rain and the chance for a glaze of ice on the roads.
The precipitation tapers off by 8 p.m., giving way to clearing skies. Overnight temperatures in the low-30s could bring icy spots on the roads.
Tuesday will see mostly sunny skies with highs around 38 degrees, and Wednesday brings highs in the low- to mid-30s.
Much milder weather sets in toward the end of the workweek. Highs Thursday will be in the mid-40s. Temperatures Friday will be near 50 degrees, and moderate to heavy rain showers that day coupled with the rapid snowmelt could lead to some flooding.
