A water main break that shut down parts of Zeckendorf Boulevard this morning in Westbury has been repaired.
Town of Hempstead crews worked throughout the morning to repair the break that happened on Zeckendorf Boulevard off Old Country Road around 6 a.m.
The water main break caused some flooding, which traveled down to Old Country Road.
Crews had to dig 6 feet to find the 16-inch pipe, which dated back to the 1960s.
Water Commissioner John Reinhardt tells News 12 the pipe was within its life span.
“Construction that goes on in the area, truck traffic, things like that, and they do crack from time to time,” says Reinhardt.
By the afternoon, the repairs were completed and the roadways reopened.
“For our guys it is routine, but for the people it affects, it is something new and inconvenience at that time,” says Reinhardt. “We work as quickly as we can to get the service back up and restored.”
Water was restored to the two commercial buildings that were affected as well.
