An intersection in Wantagh was renamed in honor of a late Wantagh native and 9/11 first responder Saturday morning.
A sign after NYPD Sergeant Al Morabito was unveiled at the corner of Locust and Oakland avenues.
The decorated NYPD officer died in March from a 9/11-related brain cancer.
His son, Peter Morabito, said he could not be happier with the honor his late father received.
"It just warms my heart because he cared a lot about the city, he cared a lot about New York, he was a proud American and he paid the ultimate sacrifice, so seeing that he's on it...just thrills me," he said.
AL Morabito retired in 2006 after 40 years on the job.
He is survived by his three children and several grandchildren.
